Una canción: Save the Country (Laura Nyro)

Laura Nyro murió en 1997, con 49 años. Cantante y pianista fue una de las compositoras que aportaron más poesía en la época en que muchas canciones tenían poesía.Sus canciones fueron cantadas por muchos de los grandes de la época, de la segunda mitad de los sesenta y los setenta. En el recuerdo de muchos la versión de una de sus canciones más famosas When I die, con David Clayton Thomas al frente de los Blood, Sweat & Tears, una de las grandes bandas de entonces.
La chica que no quería estudiar las guerras fue siempre un ave rara, una compositora que, según sus propias palabras, siempre quiso que sus canciones tuvieran un sentido para la sociedad en que vivió, que fueran una forma de hacerles llegar los problemas: "I was always interested in the social consciousness of certain songs. My mother and grandfather were progressive thinkers, so I felt at home in the peace movement and the women's movement, and that has influenced my music". En "Save The Country" vemos ese pacifismo expresado.
Laura Nyro es una creciente influencia en muchos de los nuevos cantantes que quieren ir más allá del pop y que se acercan a su música. Su figura de chica tímida y sensible, va creciendo con el tiempo.
